Just three weeks removed from the last WWE pay-per-view, the stage is now set for WWE TLC 2015 on Sunday night from TD Garden in Boston, MA. The show will be the last PPV event of the year for WWE and the company, who is in the midst of an extremely concerning ratings decline, will almost surely be trying to end 2015 with a bang.
It’s safe to say that the majority of pro wrestling fans are considerably frustrated with WWE heading into the show. It’s not just the fact that WWE is missing top-level superstars by the boatload with Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Randy Orton, and Daniel Bryan—just to name a few—unable to compete due to injury; it’s also how WWE has chosen to deal with such unfortunate circumstances.

There’s no more egregious example of this than the fact that the company elected to put the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Sheamus after he cashed in his Money In The Bank Contract in the main event of Survivor Series. Many fans have thought Sheamus merely capturing the briefcase was a mistake, but to pull the trigger on a Sheamus title reign while ratings and fan enjoyment are at near all-time lows is just preposterous.
WWE can try to mask how problematic a Sheamus title reign is by forming the new League of Nations stable all they want, but the fact remains that the decision is so transparent and misguided. Virtually anyone watching this storyline play out can see that Sheamus and his new faction of foreign heels are only in place for Reigns to overcome the odds and for Roman to look better and more favorable in the process.
Moreover, WWE has shown negligence in terms of secondary storylines in order to push this feud between Reigns and Sheamus. Save for the WWE Divas Championship match between Charlotte and Paige and an eight-man tag team match involving The Wyatt Family and former ECW stars, every other match at WWE TLC can be tied back to the Sheamus-Reigns storyline. That’s not effective storytelling and is also a complete misuse of the talent that’s left, even with the plethora of injuries lessening the depth of the roster.
All of that is to say, WWE will have to pull out all of the stops at WWE TLC if they want to leave a positive impression on fans to end the year. Things will obviously pick up afterwards with a build to the Royal Rumble and ultimately WrestleMania, but they have to do something now to regain the interest of fans before that build starts.
WWE has their work cut out for them at TLC, so we shall see what they have in store. Here’s a look at the matches set for the show and how I see things playing out on Sunday night in Boston.
